Hi all. Let me first apologize for leaving many of you hanging over the last couple of months. As some of you know, my life changed pretty dramatically on September 5th. I’ve shared a few things on my personal Facebook page, but let me share them here to fill the rest of you in:
It’s weird for me to read those posts again (especially the first one); it seems like I typed those words a long time ago. The emotions were raw and everything was moving so fast. Things are slowing down a bit now and I’m starting to find some normalcy in our new way of life. This morning was Josh’s 18th day of radiation, only 12 more to go! He’s extremely tired, his mouth has a terrible taste to it, and his eyes are super sensitive to light. He is anxious to be done with this part of the journey (we all are).
Good things have happened along the way though. There is so much we have to be thankful for. The fact that we moved back to South Dakota and close to family before this all happened is a blessing that I can’t think about without tearing up. The kids are doing well, processing this the best way a four year old and one year old can. Wyatt is finally sleeping through the night. Quinn LOVES school. And Josh and I are still managing to find humor in things (if you’re lucky, we’ll crack a joke about tumors or cancer in front of you so you can feel realllly uncomfortable 😆). I’d say that we are adjusting pretty well.
I’m doing my best to live in the moment. I’m doing my best to live life to the fullest. All the clichés! It’s much easier to understand the importance of these things after life hits you upside the head. Boy, I would love to go back to a normal day with all the normal stuff, where my biggest problem was that we forgot to put the garbage cans on the curb and I forgot to defrost meat for supper. Guys, don’t sweat the small stuff. Seriously.
And just when I needed to be reminded of this the other night, my four year old stopped me in my tracks and told me to go look at the pretty sunset.
I’ll leave you with that, friends. I hope to be back soon with happier things ♥️
