Donuts are my friend. They are basically dessert for breakfast, and I see nothing wrong and everything right with that. And these baked donuts are soooo right. They are baked, but taste so similar to fried donuts, it’s nuts! The coating of butter, cinnamon, and sugar are to thank for that. (Butter makes everything better though, right?) So whip up a batch of these easy donuts and go nuts.

These baked donuts taste like the good ‘ol fried version. So easy and so tasty! Can also be made into mini muffins (they bake in about the same amount of time, just keep an eye on them).
Ingredients
- Donuts
- 1 3/4 cup AP flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 egg
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup apple cider
- Topping
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
Donuts
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray 2 standard donut pans with cooking spray.
- Whisk together the flour, sugars, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium bowl.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla.
- Gradually whisk in the melted butter.
- Now mix in the apple cider.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and stir until just combined.
- Use a piping bag or spoon the batter into the prepared donut pans.
- Bake in preheat oven for around 12 minutes. Remove from the oven when the donuts are puffy and bounce back when touched.
- Remove from oven and cool in the pans for a few minutes before removing to cool on wire cooling racks.
Topping
- When the donuts are slightly cool, prepare your topping.
- Mix the cinnamon and sugar in a shallow bowl or pie dish.
- Brush the donuts with your melted butter and then dunk in the cinnamon and sugar mixture, coating completely. If you get aggressive with your topping, you may need to make a second batch of the cinnamon and sugar and melted butter.
- Eat up! Best if eaten within 2 days.
