Hello! You guys, I’m back after taking a little maternity leave from blogging. There’s someone special I’d like you to meet. I’m pleased to present Mr. Wyatt Howard.
I’m absolutely in love with this little guy. Like head over heels, smitten with him. I really didn’t know it was possible to have the kind of love I have for Quinn with anyone else, but here I am with my heart full all over again.
He came into our lives on July 7, a special day made even more precious with Wyatt. You see, July 7 is Josh’s birthday and our wedding anniversary (our 10th this year).
Quinn is in love with her little bro. She smothers him with kisses on the daily (it looks aggressive, but I promise that he loves it). She has really stepped nicely into her roll as big sister and big helper. The girl is a champion pacifier-fetcher, the best in all the land. She may have run into some sleep issues, refusing to nap and waking up in the middle of the night to join me & Josh in our bed, but we’re making some progress.
And baby Wyatt, oh baby Wyatt, we couldn’t have asked for a sweeter boy. He is a calm baby, as long as his belly is full and his diaper is clean. He’s happy and he loves to snuggle. (Baby snuggling is my favorite.)
He might be a mama’s boy.
He’s definitely fond of his daddy.
And he has a friend for life in his sister.
We are really adjusting to life as a family of four. No, it hasn’t all been rainbows and sunshine. The sleepless nights, the sleep regression for Quinn, and a bout with mastitis haven’t been my favorite parts, but I keep reminding myself that this newborn stage is over in a flash. So fast. Eight weeks in and Wyatt is already starting to sleep in longer stretches, so I’m doing my best to cherish the middle of the night quiet time with him while it lasts. And even though Quinn has suddenly decided to become our roommate, I am finding ways to make lemonade out of the situation. When I roll over in the middle of the night to find her staring at me (albeit creepy and surprising, there’s love behind those pretty blue eyes), and she asks to hold my hand while she falls asleep with a smile on her face, it’s pretty hard to be upset about that.
And all of this has been made easier with the support of our family. We had a rotation of family visiting for the month of July and it was beyond helpful. From the big stuff like helping with Quinn, holding Wyatt, and moral support to the household chores like washing dishes and folding laundry, things went as smooth as humanly possible. It really does take a village and our village is amazing. Thank you to them and to all of our other family and friends who have reached out with texts and phone calls making sure we are surviving these newborn days. Sending love to you all! You guys are the best.So all is pretty wonderful here. It’s a busy and tiresome time, but it’s chock-full of love.
I’m glad to be back to blogging, I missed you all! My posts might be a little sporadic as I adjust to my new, unstructured schedule (having a newborn and 3-year old will do that to a lady), but that should get better with time. I hope you all enjoy your weekend 🙂 Now I’ve got to go cuddle with my favorite little bubba.
