Apple fritters are pretty amazing. As a teen, I gravitated toward the apple fritter because it was the biggest honking thing I could pick from the donut display case. (But I also wouldn’t turn down a chocolate sprinkle cake donut, glazed donut, or a Long John. I like donuts.) I would search for the biggest fritter I could find. So tasty. I thought that it would be fun to recreate the apple fritter at home, but in a smaller package. And because they are small, you can eat as many as you want 😉 Go ahead and get your fritter on!

The classic apple fritter made in the comfort of your own home! Filled with apple and cinnamon goodness, covered in a sweet glaze. Breakfast is served!
Ingredients
- Apple Fritter
- 1 large sweet apple, peeled and chopped into small cubes
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon, divided (cut this in half if you aren’t a huge fan of cinnamon)
- 1 1/2 cup AP flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Glaze
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 4 tablespoons milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
Instructions
Apple Fritters
- Heat a few inches of oil in a high/large stockpot or pan to 375 degrees.
- While the oil is heating, prepare the apple mixture. Combine the apple, brown sugar, butter, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for about 8 minutes until the apples are tender. Set aside to cool a bit.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, & 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon (omit the cinnamon if you want less cinnamon flavor).
- In a small bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and vanilla.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients. Now fold in the apple mixture.
- Use a cookie scoop (no larger than 1″) or use two spoons to drop a bit of batter into the heated oil. The fry time is completely dependent on the size of your fritter bite. Mine were cooked after about 2-3 minutes on each side. I highly recommend doing one test fritter first to gauge the fry time you will need. Also be sure the keep an eye on the temperature of your oil, you want to keep it as close to 375 degrees throughout the entire process.
- Cook the fritters in batches and carefully remove from the oil with a slotted spoon and place on a lined wire cooling rack.
Glaze
- Stir the glaze ingredients together until smooth.
- Brush the glaze onto the fritters while they are still slightly warm.
- Store any leftover fritters in an airtight container at room temperature and enjoy within 2-3 days.
