BOO! Did I scare you? Do these caramel apple mummies scare you? Probably not, but it was worth a try. I’m not into scary stuff, but I am into cute, which is how I came up with these mummies. They are not the least bit frightening, but are delicious and perfect for Halloween (and that’s nothing to boo about).
- 2 apples
- Caramel squares, 1/2 package (about 20 caramels)
- White candy coating, 1/2 package (or 1/2 cup white chocolate chips melted with 1 tsp shortening)
- Candy eyes
- Popsicle sticks
- Wash and slice your apples. Make sure the slices are thick enough to fit the popsicle sticks in, I got 4 slices per apple.
- Insert the popsicle stick and place on a parchment or wax lined sheet. Use a paper towel to pat the apples dry (this will help the caramel stick to the apples).
- Melt the caramel squares with 1 tablespoon of water in the microwave. Heat for 1 minute and stir, if not fully melted, continue heating in 10-second intervals.
- Dip each apple in the caramel and place back on the parchment paper.
- Stick the candy eyes on the caramel-coated apples.
- Place apples in the fridge for 1 hour or freezer for 15 minutes to allow the caramel to harden.
- Melt the white candy coating according to package directions.
- Pour the melted candy coating in a Ziploc bag with a tip snipped off and decorate the apples like mummies. The candy coating will harden quickly.
- Enjoy immediately (or at least within a day of making).

Apples are washed and ready to slice.

Slice the apples like this. I got two thick slices from each side of the apple, for a total of four slices per apple.

Use a paper towel to pat the apples dry (this will help the caramel stick to the apples.

Carefully stick the apples with popsicle sticks.

Place caramels and water (I used half of a bag of caramel squares, around 20, and 1 tablespoon of water) in microwave and heat for 1 minute, then stir, if not fully melted, heat in 10-second intervals until fully melted.

The caramel is melted and the apples are ready (make sure to place them on a piece of parchment paper).

Dip the apples in the caramel. (It’s up to you whether or not you dip one side or both sides in the caramel.

Looking creepy already. I used these candy eyes from Wilton.

I used half of a package of vanilla candy coating, melted according to package directions. You could also use white chocolate chips (probably a half a cup for 2 apples) melted with a teaspoon of shortening.

Let’s make these apples look like mummies, shall we? I tried using a spoon to drizzle on the white candy coating and, as you can see, it turned out a bit too heavy. Instead, use a plastic bag with the tip cut off to pipe the coating onto the apples.

All decorated and ready to eat. The white chocolate should harden quickly, once hardened, remove from parchment paper and eat up.
