Gooey caramel apple goodness. Warm it up and plop some ice cream on top for the ultimate fall dessert.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup oats
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 32 Caramel squares (almost an entire 11oz. bag)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 Granny Smith apples
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line an 8×8″ baking pan with foil or parchment paper and set aside.
- Mix together the melted butter, flour, oats, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
- Press half of the oat mixture into the bottom of your prepared pan and bake for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, prepare your caramel sauce. In a small saucepan, heat the caramels and heavy cream. Stir until smooth and fully melted.
- Wash & thinly slice the apples. You can peel the apples, if you prefer.
- Remove pan from oven and arrange the apples over the top. Then pour the caramel over the apples. Crumble the remaining half of the oat mixture over the top and return the pan to the oven to bake for 15-20 additional minutes.
- Allow the carmelitas to cool completely before slicing. The bars are extremely gooey, so if you want the bars to be sliced cleanly, place the pan in the freezer for at least 30 minutes before slicing. Otherwise, grab a spoon and dig in 🙂 Can be stored in a cool area or in refrigerator. Enjoy!
