Healthy Crockpot Apple Crisp

September 26, 2013 by Melissa

Apple season is here, apple season is here!!!!  It is decided, Autumn is my new favorite season.  I have been drooling over apple, pumpkin, caramel, and soup recipes all week long.  I broke out my crock pot last weekend and loaded it up with this recipe for Apple Crisp.  With ham, cheesy potatoes, and crisp heating up on Sunday afternoon, our house smelled glorious, GLORIOUS I tell you!  Please make this recipe, you won’t regret it.

Serves about 8 Recipe

Ingredients

6 cups chopped apples
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup AP flour
1 tablespoon corn starch
2 tablespoons apple pie spice
1 tablespoon apple butter
4 1/2 tablespoons regular butter
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
Dash of salt
2 tablespoons lemon juice
Ice cream for garnish

Directions

Chop up your apples and place them in a crock pot.  Add in the apple butter and lemon juice, then stir together.  In a small bowl, mix the corn starch, 1 tablespoon of apple pie spice, and 1/4 cup white sugar.  Pour over the apples and mix well.  Now add in the walnuts and stir together.

In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, brown sugar, last tablespoon of apple pie spice, and salt.  Cut in the butter until the mixture is coarse and crumbly.  Sprinkle the mixture over the apples.

Let the crisp cook for 4 hours on low or until the apples are nice and tender.  Top with ice cream and enjoy!

Mix together the cornstarch, 1 tablespoon of apple pie spice, and white sugar. I jumped the gun and put both tablespoons of apple pie spice in this step...it still turned out delicious!
