Valentine’s Peanut Butter Hug Cookies

February 14, 2013 by Melissa

Happy Valentine’s Day, all!  I hope this day of love (and greeting cards, chocolates, and roses) has been nothing but lovely to you all.  Tell someone you love them today, shout it from the rooftop if you please.  Also consider making these cookies because they are sparkly and delicious.

From Life Is Sweet

Makes 24 cookies

Ingredients

1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons milk
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Pink or Red & Yellow Food Coloring
Pink or Red sprinkles
Hershey’s Hugs

Directions

Preheat your oven to 375.  Add the butter, shortening, and peanut butter to a mixing bowl.  Cream together.  Add the sugars, egg, and milk and mix until combined.  Add the flour, baking soda, and baking powder and mix until combined.  Add your food coloring until you achieve the color you want.  I would recommend adding a little food coloring, mixing, and then adding more if necessary until you are happy with the hue.

Roll the dough into 1 1/2 – 2 inch balls and roll in sprinkles and place on an ungreased cookie sheet a few inches apart from each other.  Bake  for 9-11 minutes.  Remove from the oven and place a Hug in the center of each cookie.  Let the cookies cool completely to allow the Hug to harden up again.  Enjoy!

Add the coloring a few drops at a time (I did 2:1 red: yellow) until you reach the desired color.

Not super pink, a little more salmon colored, but oh well!

Immediately plop your Hersey's Hugs into the cookies. Let them cool completely.
