Friday Favorites

January 11, 2013 by Melissa

Happy Friday to you, happy Friday to you, happy Friday to youuu, happy Friday to you!  I hope this post finds you well.  Is it snowing in your neck of the woods?  It sounds like Winter Storm Gandolf is going to wreak havoc on the Midwest.  If you’re in that area, please be safe if you have to drive!  We got a wee bit of snow here this morning, but it doesn’t look like much else is supposed to happen.  If you are going to be stuck inside this weekend, the good news is that the Golden Globes are on Sunday night!  I love a majority of awards shows, but this one is my favorite!!  Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are hosting, so I am positive that laughs will abound.  Whatever your plans are for the weekend, enjoy!  To kickoff your weekend, here are some of my favorites from around the web in this week’s Friday Favorites!

Favorite Appetizer: Baked Brie with Apples.  I have some leftover Brie in the fridge that had no purpose until now!

Favorite Casserole Helper: Homemade Cream of Chicken Soup.  Thank you, thank you, thank you @pinchofyum!  I’ve been avoiding many recipes that call for cream of chicken because I try to eat healthier meals (I don’t apply this rule when it comes to desserts :).). But I realllly want those yummy meals that require canned cream of glop chicken.  Hooray!

Favorite Reason #534 Why I Can’t Wait Until Summer:  The Avett Brothers are going to be at Red Rocks on July 6th with Old Crow Medicine Show opening!  Tickets go on sale next Friday!!!  I say that would be a wonderful way to celebrate the day before Josh’s Bday and our Anniversary!

Favorite Mexican Dish: Grilled Shrimp Tostadas with Mashed Black Beans and Avocado Salsa Fresca.  This dish would add some much-needed pizazz to our regular meal routine.  Love all of these flavors!

Favorite Bowl: Cookie Bowls.  Flip over your muffin tin & bake cookie dough on them for edible, fillable bowls for ice cream, pudding, etc!  Genius!

Favorite Organization Helpers: DIY Mail Clip Organizers.  One of my (albeit silly) pet peeves is mail being left on the counter.  Think these clips will keep me from coming unhinged?

Favorite Drink: Serendipity 3’s Frozen Hot Chocolate.  Have you ever been to Serendipity 3 in NYC?  I haven’t, but I’ve seen this famous hot cocoa in Serendipity and countless food shows.  I best be making myself some stat. 🙂

Favorite V-Day Decorations: DIY Valentines Decorations.  Does this mean I can keep up my Christmas tree and decorate it for Valentines Day??  Don’t judge me.

Favorite Pasta: Inside Out Lasagna.  Like Garfield, I too love lasagna.  You know what I love even more?  That this version is healthy and less fussy!

Favorite Coat Hangers: Spoon Coat Hangers.  Great idea!  My parents make fancy things with old spoons and forks…here’s another idea for them!

Favorite Dessert Pizza: Apple Cinnamon Streusel Dessert Pizza.  Anyone familiar with Pizza Ranch’s Dessert Pizza?!  This totally reminds me of the delicious pizza you can find on the buffet line at your local Midwestern Pizza Ranch!  I often ate more dessert pizza than regular pizza while eating there. 🙂  Now that I’m nowhere near a Ranch (the pizza kind, at least), I’m excited to make this similar recipe at home!

Favorite DIY Fashion: DIY Statement Necklace made out of clear glass jewelery and nail polish and/or markers.  A-Mazing!

Favorite Comfort Food: Lightened-Up Shepherd’s Pie.  I think you can see a trend this week with healthy meals in my Friday Favorites!  It’s to make up for all the Chubby Hubby Truffles I’ve been eating. 🙂  This lighter/portion-controlled version of Shepherd’s Pie looks delicious and perfect for a cold day like today!
