Happy Sunday, everyone! I wanted to share a great craft project for wine cork coasters that I recently finished. I found this project on Pinterest and thought it would be a great way to upcycle old wine corks!
You will need the following items to make these coasters:
At least 25 wine corks, depending on how many and which kind you make. The square coasters take 4 corks, the circles take 5-7.
Hot glue gun
Thin cork circles or squares
Pocket knife or Leatherman
Cutting board
Coarse sand paper
Directions:
Cut the corks in half (be VERY careful). Figure out a pattern for each coaster and then begin gluing the wine corks onto the thin cork. Let the glue set for 5-10 minutes. If you did square coasters, you’re done! If you did circle coasters, you will need to turn the coaster over (wine corks down) and trim around the circle. Once you have your circle, sand around the edges and you’re done!
Moving onto a kitchen failure. I got a new Macaron cookbook and attempted to make Coffee Cream Macarons, unfortunately they did not turn out. At all. Massive kitchen fail.
What did I do wrong?! My thoughts are that I placed the Macarons too closely together on the baking sheet or that my proportion of ground almonds was not enough. Help! Does anybody out there have any tips for making Macarons?
I will not give up Macarons, next time I will conquer you!
On a happier note…I had a wonderful date night with Josh-ua. We went to one of our favorite restaurants in Charlottesville, The Local. It’s a wonderful restaurant with a menu made up of food & drinks from local farmers, artisan cheese makers, vineyards, etc. Aside from the fantastic food, The Local has a lovely, relaxing atmosphere and a great staff.
I had the Local “Rag Mountain” Trout stuffed with Spanish Chorizo and Parmesan served over Grits and Josh had the Crispy Duck with Potatoes, Brussel Sprouts, and Cabbage. We shared Blackberry Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream for dessert. It was all delicious!
What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday night! Now time to watch the Oscars…
[…] 30 list. They were delicious, to boot. I think the main difference between this batch and the first batch I attempted was that I used almond flour and room temperature eggs. If any of you have been searching for a […]
