Merry Christmas to you all (a day late)! I hope you all had a fantastic day with the ones that you love.
We traveled back to South Dakota from Virginia last Tuesday and have been on the move since (hence the lack of posting). Our flight was uneventful and no luggage was lost, so we were off to a great start in comparison to the prior two Christmases! Since landing we’ve had a nice supper with my sisters and nieces in Sioux Falls, went in the ditch after hitting a patch of black ice (luckily uninjured), had a lovely supper with my parents (Iowa pork chops, oh how I’ve missed you), and then headed for the Black Hills with Josh’s parents to celebrate Christmas with his mom’s side. We have two more weeks left back in the Midwest and I’m looking forward to spending more time with family and seeing friends!
What are your Christmas food traditions?
My family has had a variety of things on the dinner table for Christmas; among my favorites are ham, turkey (a sort of repeat to T’giving), my mom’s delicious homemade rolls, my Grandma Fuoss’ sugar cookies and chocolate covered cherries, and my Grandma Scott’s caramels. In more recent years, we have done soups-perfect for a cold, snowy day! Since Josh and I weren’t with my family yesterday for Christmas, we will be celebrating with them on New Year’s Eve. We’ll be making a bunch of appetizers…I’ll make sure to post some of the recipes!
It’s been fun to learn all of the traditions that Josh’s family has over the past 7 years. His mom’s side is sure to have taco salad on Christmas Eve and prime rib on Christmas Day. His dad’s side has oyster stew, lutefisk (I have yet to try this, maybe this year…), and lefse.
I wish you all peace, joy, happiness, and full bellies this Christmas season!
