Buttermilk Biscuits

November 1, 2011 by Melissa

My search for a great biscuit has come to an end!  I was so pleased with the Buttermilk Biscuit recipe I found on Epicurious I will surely be making these many times over.  They have a nice flaky crust on the outside with a fluffy consistency inside…everything I have been searching for in a biscuit!

From Epicurious
Yields 12

Ingredients

3 cups all purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup (1 1/2sticks) chilled unsalted butter, cut into 1/4-inch pieces
1 cup buttermilk

Directions

Preheat oven to 425°F.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.  Add in the butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend together with the flour, until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.  Add in the buttermilk and stir until evenly moistened.

Drop the biscuits by 1/4 cup balls onto a baking sheet, allow 2 inches of space between biscuits.  Bake for about 15 minutes, until the tops of the biscuits are golden brown.  Allow to cool for a  few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
